Personal assessment

Broker’s View

My personal impression of Illusion – open, professional, and with an eye for the details that make this one-off yacht so special.

To me, Illusion is a fascinating yacht and an exceptional presence in this size category. Even at first glance on deck, it is clear how solidly and carefully the yacht has been built. A fixed stainless-steel railing is part of the equipment, and the fittings are generously dimensioned. Together with many other details, they give the yacht a very robust and high-quality feel.

I particularly like the wide and well-organised cockpit. It offers plenty of freedom of movement, is laid out very practically, and at the same time gives Illusion its own distinctive character. The companionway has also been designed with considerable thought. The elegant companionway door and intelligently arranged steps make very efficient use of the available space.

This impression continues below deck. The interior is extensively finished in mahogany and has clearly been planned with a great deal of thought and attention to detail. Numerous lockers and storage compartments, the folding saloon table, the navigation table, and other well-considered solutions make very efficient use of the available space. Headroom in the saloon is somewhat limited due to the yacht’s design, but for a boat of this size the interior feels remarkably well thought out and comfortable.

Illusion also has plenty to offer from a technical perspective. The 16 hp Solé diesel engine with Saildrive was newly installed in 2011. With a draught of 1.80 m, the yacht also has a comparatively deep keel for her size, which contributes positively to course stability and her sailing performance, particularly when sailing to windward.

Of course, Illusion is not a new yacht either. There are currently some minor leaks around the windows. In my view, however, this is a manageable issue, as the affected windows can be resealed. Overall, my impression is clearly that of an exceptionally solidly built and highly individual yacht.

Anyone looking for something beyond a standard production yacht, and who values solid construction, high-quality details and a character all of its own, should take a closer look at Illusion in person. A viewing in Lelystad is the best way to appreciate just how many thoughtful solutions and distinctive details have gone into this one-off yacht.
